2nd part of.... Why Are We Fascinated by Perfumes?

Hello Reader Friend: I am addicted to perfumes, and it occurred to me to investigate its origin, it seemed to me a very interesting topic, and I want to share it with you.

As I promised you, I continue with the second part of "Why Perfumes Fascinate Us?" excuse the redundancy... a very, very attractive subject. Most of us love to wear perfume, but for many of us it is an almost ignored subject. (I include myself).

Neanderthal man
The origins of perfume date back to the Stone Age, almost 3 to 4 million years ago (Neanderthal man), which is when aromatic wood embers, and resins began to be used to obtain an odorous smoke with which they offered their Gods, at the beginning of civilization to attract prey in hunting, repelling insects, religious rites, being developed later by the Persians and the Arabs.

Smell Good For as Long as Possible
I think we all like to feel that the people around us, perceive us perfumed for most of the day, that we smell good; perfume should not be considered a luxury, that's why, I have some tips that I want to share with you.

Smell is a very important function in our health. Without the sense of smell we will not be able to distinguish between fresh and rotten foods.

Dr. Gary Beauchamp, a taste and smell researcher at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia, explains that each person has a very different sensitivity to odors, when you, and I smell the same physical thing, our perceptions could be very different.

The sense of smell makes the different aromas can change our mood; it has been calculated that humans can detect more than 10,000 different odors.

The sense of smell is important when it comes to experiencing pleasure, and enjoyment; although for some people not only perfumes can captivate or excite people...we will talk about this point later.

Below I show the summary of part 1 of "Why are we fascinated by perfumes? :

  • How important was it for you to wear perfume?
  • If you considered it a luxury?
  • Where Does Perfume Originate?
  • How are they obtained, and what are the ingredients to make the essences of the perfume?
  • How, and where to apply the perfume correctly?
  • What to do to prolong the perfume on your skin for longer?
  • What to do, so that your perfume retains its fragrance for longer and does not evaporate?
  • Difference between Perfume, Lotion, Cologne and Fragrance; it seems the same, but it doesn't have the same meaning...
  • Where are the essential oils, which are the basis of Perfumes, Colognes, Lotions, and Creams.
  • How do they get the Fragrance, Scent, Smell, and essence?
  • Difference between Fragrance, Aroma, Smell, Essence? It looks the same, but it doesn't have the same meaning.
  •  In the previous reading we also talked about the three types from which aromas are obtained: Vegetable origin, Animal origin and Synthetic origin.

Animal Raw Materials
Animal raw materials are very expensive, which are part of the composition of quality perfumes, today most of they are replaced with synthetic products.

Algalia Cat

Ambergris sperm whale secretion is a metabolic process,"sperm whale feces", is very valuable and is priced at exorbitant prices, higher than gold, it is used to make perfumes. The perfume industry uses more and more chemicals.

Beaver

Castoreum (anal glands of beavers) extract of glands that are between the hind legs of the beaver. The Algalia cat, secretion of a gland of the animal that bears the same name, the musk.

African Civet

Some of the most common synthetic raw materials in the production of perfumes would be vanillin, civetone, (civetone is a pheromone from the African civet); it is a species of carnivorous mammal, populates the forests of southern Africa. It is an animal omnivore. Has a strong musky odor.

Synthetic Raw Materials Therefore, synthetic products allow to prepare smells similar or very similar to natural ones, also to create new smells that do not exist in nature, such as lilac and lily that have resisted direct extraction.

The prohibitions and impediments on the use of certain animal raw materials to make perfumes have been replaced by the chemical industry, which has extraordinarily developed that synthetic raw materials have become the fundamental basis of perfumery. Thus allowing moderate prices in the market.

Sometimes these synthetic raw materials are reconstructions of aromas that cannot be found among natural oils (as in the case of the aroma of honeysuckle).

Essential Oils                                                                                          Essential oils are of natural origin, natural components that are obtained from plants or some fruits by various methods; extracts that are extracted from aromatic trees, aromatic plants, their stems and roots, as well as their leaves and flowers, but especially by steam distillation.

Ways of extraction: Pressing: the plant material is mechanically squeezed to release the oil and this is collected and filtered by steam distillation, extraction with volatile solvents, enfleurage and with supercritical fluids, therefore they are very laborious processes.

For example, to get 1 kilo of lavender essential oil, around 200 kg of fresh flowers are needed. This clarifies why the price of essential oils has a high price because of how difficult it is to obtain them.

Essential Oils
Why Does The Price Make a Differe
Price is definitely an important factor in this product, but now we already know that it is not only about that, but also about other aspects that are even more relevant.

What is The Difference Between a Fragrance and a Perfume?                                                           A fragrance is a pleasant and soft smell, synonymous with smell, aroma or perfume. Fragrance is the scent of any perfume, cologne, lotion, or cream. Products that imitate the aroma of roses, flowers for people to use in order to feel pleasant sensations.

The fragrance is a blend of essential oil extracts. Essential oils are natural components extracted from plants by various methods, but especially steam distillation. Fragrances are also synthetic components created in laboratories, imitating nature. The fragrance is a mixture of essential oils (5-8% concentration), extracts (depending on the smell), water and alcohol.

The fragrance is the scent  that the perfume or cologne has; the perfume, must to reach 30%+ of concentration in essential oils, and use an alcohol of 85ΒΊ.

What is the Difference Between Perfume, Cologne, Lotion?                    Perfume: The perfume tend to have a higher concentration of essential oils than colognes, aromatic components and other elements that together achieve a very pleasant aroma. Its consistency ranges between 15 and 40%+ of the aromatic mixture dissolved in water and alcohol. Some perfumes tend to have a higher concentration of essential oil than colognes, approximately 40% + essence or essential oil.                                        What is a Cologne?                                                                The Cologne, is a kind of perfume that exudes a fragrance, but the cologne has a lower concentration of essential oil, or essence. As a result, the perfume lasts longer than the cologne.

Why Are We Fascinated by Perfumes?

If you are one of those who do not like to spend 24 hours with the scent of perfume, and you are just looking to freshen up, the colony is a good fragrance option for some time of the day, that does not last long. The cologne is a type of perfume that emanates a fragrance, but has a lower concentration of essential oil or essence. (5-8% concentration).

The Colonies are fragrances based on a mixture of essential oils, there are between 2% to 3%, in addition to water and alcohol. Others may point out that their concentration ranges between 5 and 8%, but the truth is that because they contain more alcohol, the aroma usually evaporates in a short time.

There is a Misunderstanding Between Lotions, and Colognes.
An Example: The After Shave Lotion.                                  This fragrance is used as a cosmetic or medicinal liquid that is applied to the skin, it is mostly used in men for after shaving. Some after-shave lotions are fragranced, which offers a good smell, is actually geared toward tightening pores, protecting your skin, and adds freshness and serves as an antiseptic after shaving.
There are other lotions that are used for hair, Its consistency can be more like that of an oil, that is why it is usually used for massage or as a product to give body and luminosity to the hair, and other lotions can be used on the body; and its purpose is very different from that of perfumes.

You just have to keep in mind, that when you use lotion, and perfume, they must be of the same fragrance that the lotion combines with the perfume, so that it is not strange to have two scents. If you use lotion only without perfume, its essence is subtle, and after a very few hours it will diminish, but that is what the cologne is for. Other examples of lotions are sun blockers.

What is the Difference Between Smell and Aroma?
Smell is the sensation, property of a substance capable of activating, stimulating the human sense of smell. The smell that you perceive when passing through a bakery or restaurant is an aroma.
An aroma is everything that gives off an odor, a plant, food, perfumes, colognes, gives off an aroma with a lot of fragrance and smell. The most frequent use of the concept "fragrance" is associated with a perfume.

What is the Difference Between Essence and Extract?                                    An essence is an oil extracted, generally from a fruit, using either hot or cold pressure (cold pressure is of better quality). And finally, an extract is obtained by evaporating the solvent that is used to extract the aromas and flavors of a product.

In general, the difference between Perfume and Lotion will depend on how high the consistency of oils and scent components is. This characteristic will define the duration of the aroma on your body. That is why it is vital to know when we use each one!
Therefore as a summary we have:
  • The essence is the base scent of the essential oil.
  • The combination of essences results in fragrances.
  • A fragrance is the unique scent, combination of essences, that a cologne or perfume gives off.
  • An aroma is the same, a unique smell, a combination of essences.
  • A perfume is a substance in liquid or solid form that humans use to improve our personal smell.
  • Or what is the same, we use a perfume to give off a fragrance that is pleasant to the smell.
  • A cologne is the same, its difference from perfume lies in the concentration of essential oil used in its manufacture.
 Why Do We Like Perfumes?
I love them!!!
they are my weakness, and we wonder why we love to use perfumes, colognes, fragrances, and the reason is that aromas, fragrances, make us feel happy! Yes yes !!!!

We use perfumes for coquetry, it gives us a touch of sensuality and seduction, we feel good... Some fragrances act like pheromones making you more attractive to others. They make you more desirable!

What Are The Pheromones

Natural chemical particles, secreted by humans through the sweat glands, and by animals, with the aim of attracting the attention of the opposite or same sex. Its function is to intensify sexual attraction.

What happens is that from bathing so much we lose the pheromones due to the drainage of the water from the bathtub, this is the truth. πŸ˜†πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ So, hardly anyone around us feels the true scent of our pheromones. 😁 πŸ˜ͺ

Well dear friend, I don't want to incite you to go to your love encounter, filthy, dirty without bathing; otherwise, will happen to you, what the women lovers said about "IV King of France"  (later I will tell you about his real story), what you can do is to take a good bath and try without using perfume,...either you kill him with your love, or you kill him with your smell...πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.it's a black joke!!!!!

What Happens to Us When We Meet Someone
Your smell, your perfume can define when you meet a person, non-verbal language is crucial, from the way of dressing, which serves as an indicator of personality.
But there is something decisive: What our brain does not forget are smells.

In Sex
In sex, smell plays an extremely important role when it comes to experiencing pleasure and enjoyment, not only perfumes can captivate and excite people. There are other smells that can arouse desire... Your natural smell

Your natural smell (our body odour) of each individual can be very exciting for some people, for this reason it is extremely imperative to have very good personal hygiene. This will make your personal essence stand out be more seductive, and attractive. Bad smells will spoil your love relationship and spoil your intimate encounter.

The sense of smell when looking for a partner, according to a study published by Harvard University, chemistry is essential for falling in love, and it is said that the smell is what makes you fall in love, chemicals interact in the body, which impact at an unconscious level, and that can define whether you like a person or not.

If each one has their own personality, each one of us, has their own body odor natural. This smell is the result of our diet, age, hormonal status. "New Scientist" affirms that there are no two people in the world who smell the same.

About Personal Hygiene
Researching to write this article, look what I found (A real story) During the Renaissance (Italy in the fifteenth century) with the invention of the printing press, publications in French and Italian were sent to the population, a thousand ways to use perfumes. In this period, hygiene was put aside and perfumes were used to not smell like pigs. πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜•

It was so common among the ladies not to bathe that they put on perfumed sponges in their armpits and between their thighs. As a result, scabies was the order of the day, for both the plebs, the populace; as among the rich and famous. How these pigs would stink!!!! 😡

One of the assistants of Juana I of Castile and Aragon, also known as La Loca, wrote in one of her letters: «the daughters of the queen improve little by little from her scabies». 😲
Henry IV of France

But the place of honor among the filthy, pig, disgusting, of the royal house was... for Henry IV of France: not only, did he never wash, but he was also not even in the habit of putting on perfume. He was King of France!!! ... so dirty and disgusting. 😫 😯 πŸ˜€ Wikipedia

On their wedding night, his wife was about to faint
😁, and letters from his lovers left testimonies of the nausea and dizziness they suffered when sharing his bed. I don't say it, but the story. 😁
